Created through a live painting performance during the exhibition’s pre-opening event, this piece embodies both immediate energy and deep conceptual narrative. The strange scenes created by children wearing animal masks may appear fantastical, but beneath the surface lie a cynical critique of contemporary society and the anxious emotions of our time. The Western dualistic worldview that separated humans from nature and regarded them as isolated beings has produced human-centered desires that now threaten the sustainability of life itself. Lee’s Masquerade series reinterprets this worldview through the lens of the numinous (Rudolf Otto), forming a fantastical realism that illuminates the endless desires of modern civilization through the myth of Noah’s Ark. Imbued with the energy and immersive focus of the live moment, this special live painting piece captures the core message of the series in an even more vivid and dynamic light.
